Verify the Clinic and Physician’s Credentials
Confirm that the institution is registered to serve international patients and identify the clinician who will provide care. Treat registration, accreditation and any other designation as separate claims to verify; registration does not by itself establish that a particular clinician or procedure is appropriate for you. - Ask for the clinic’s registered legal name and location.
- Confirm the treating clinician’s name and specialty.
- Ask whether another clinician could perform the procedure.
- Check how the clinic handles complications and follow-up.
Get a Written Treatment Plan and Informed Consent
The plan should explain the proposed procedure, alternatives, expected limitations, material risks, recovery guidance and who to contact afterward. Online messages or photographs may support an initial discussion but do not replace an appropriate medical examination.
Confirm Pricing and What Is Included
Request a written estimate separating medical fees from concierge, interpreter, transport and accommodation costs. Confirm payment timing, refund and cancellation terms, possible additional costs and what happens if the clinician changes the plan.
Check Medicines, Injectables and Medical Devices
Ask for the name and manufacturer of proposed products or devices and what records will be available after treatment. The MFDS provides official information about Korea’s medical-device approval process. A general claim such as “approved” should be supported by product-specific information.
Plan Interpretation and Emergency Support
Confirm the interpreter’s role and language before the appointment. Ask the clinic whom to contact after hours and which facility should assess urgent symptoms. Confirm how consent forms, clinical photographs and treatment records will be shared, who may access them and which secure channel will be used. A travel coordinator is not an emergency medical service.
Arrange Follow-Up and Complication Care
Before departure, confirm scheduled follow-up, how records will be shared, whether remote communication is available and what care may be needed after returning home. Keep copies of consent documents, receipts, treatment details and aftercare instructions.
